Everything Happens For A Reason
I’m ceiling gazing
Because I’m short on January’s rent
Still got a week
But my minds already holed up in a tent
Two miles away
Down by the tracks
Under an old overpass
And I keep telling myself
Over and over
Everything happens for a reason
Everything happens for a reason
Or so I’m told
But I don’t know
And I’ve got a girl
But I know she’s about as good as gone
She said, “I love you”
“But I’ve got some heavy problems of my own”
And it’s so sad
But that’s just people
When they're burdened with your troubles
And I keep telling myself
Over and over
Everything happens for a reason
Everything happens for a reason
Or so I’m told
But I don’t know
And it’s not funny but I’ve gotta laugh
What else can I do?
I ain’t got a goddamn clue
Since mid-November
I’ve been hanging on an old shoestring thread
Fire-selling things
And dumpster diving for my daily bread
And I think of Christ
And all the saints
And all the promises he made
And I keep telling myself
Over and over
Everything happens for a reason
Everything happens for a reason
Or so I’m told
But I don’t know
Or so I’m told
But I don’t know
I just don’t know
