Another Turn Around the Block

I haven’t slept a night in weeks
Ever since the night you called me
And told me

That you were due in late August
And that you were going to keep it
 And that was that

So I take another turn around the block again
And stop at all the houses with well-tended gardens
And breathe the heady lilac midnight air
And try and shake the state of shock I’m in

There’s nothing I can to do
And I’m scared and angry at you
And feeling trapped

And I’m failing to man up
I’ll admit it’s been tough
Because I’m not deep

So I take another turn around the block again
And stop at all the houses with well-tended gardens
And breathe the heady lilac midnight air
And try and shake the state of shock I’m in

Because I feel sick
I’m not fine
I feel faint
All the time

And I feel pride
But mostly shame
I feel things
That I can’t name

And I think I’m fast going crazy
Knowing you’re having my baby

So I take another turn around the block again
And stop at all the houses with well-tended gardens
And breathe the heady lilac midnight air
And try and shake the state of shock I’m in
