When I was greener than I thought I was
I confused love with the lust of a woman
And it cost me a couple trips to hell and back
Because I abused my lovers with the truth I lacked

But I kept trying with the sureness of youth
But I couldn’t understand why things went south
But thinking on the wreckage it dawned on me
That love ain’t always something that’s soft and easy

I began to understand that the love we’ve been sold is a lie

So, I haven’t cried or gotten hurt in years
But it’s not because I don’t give no cares
You see, I’m just a lover like everyone else
I’ve just known love to wander off a woman’s face

But love ain’t a rare or semiprecious thing
It’s as common as catching colds are in the Spring
So, I don’t hold a worry when it runs off
And leaves me all alone and to myself

Because I know without a doubt that the love we’ve been sold is a lie

And the love that we share today
Should be known by a much darker name
Because it’s being held a slave
Sadly, made to order and to throw away
But the real thing don’t try and sell you things
It’s a gift that you keep when you give it away
